Beat the Winter Blues: Join Us for “Creative Connections” at Traditions of Lafayette

If February has you feeling a little cabin fever, you’re not alone. Short days, gray skies, and the post-holiday quiet can make this time of year feel especially isolating, particularly for older adults. In fact, a recent report from the Central Indiana Council on Aging found that nearly half of Hoosier seniors feel bored, and 42 percent report feeling depressed during the winter months.
At Traditions of Lafayette, we believe no one should have to navigate that loneliness alone. That’s why we’re hosting Creative Connections, a special event designed to spark conversation, build friendships, and offer real solutions for staying socially and emotionally connected all year long.
Socialization Matters
Social connection isn’t just “nice to have,” it’s essential. The National Institute on Aging notes that staying engaged with friends, family, and neighbors can help reduce feelings of isolation and even support cognitive health. At Traditions of Lafayette, we see this every day: when seniors have opportunities to connect, they thrive.
“Loneliness can have a major impact on the quality of life of seniors living in our community,” said Cindy Downham, community relations director at Traditions of Lafayette. “Our hope is that through this event, we can bring more attention to senior loneliness, offer ideas to add more socialization into their lives, and help them enjoy the health benefits that come from being around people more often.”

Socialization is a core value at Traditions of Lafayette, where the team understands the link between socialization and brain health. Social connections, exercise, and mental activity can offer substantial protection against aging and age-related diseases like Alzheimer’s.
